Elections FAQ

• Who is eligible to run and vote?

  Faculty

  In order to be eligible to vote and serve on the College Board or Education Council, a faculty member must be an employee of the College as defined by the faculty Collective Agreement.

  Support Staff

  In order to be eligible to vote and serve on the College Board or Education Council, a support staff member is identified as any employee of the College other than faculty.

  Students

  In order to be eligible to vote and serve on the College Board or Education Council, a student must be registered and in good standing in a course or Program (excluding CE or Contract courses or programs). A student candidate may not be directly employed by the College as a faculty, support staff or administrative employee.

• What is the time commitment?

  The Education Council meets 11 times per year.

  Regular Education Council Meeting Schedule

  The Board will hold six regular meetings a year with meetings and events scheduled over a full day (generally between 9:00am and 3:00pm) and an annual, two-day Board retreat. The retreat includes Governance training, various other educational and team building activities. If serving on a standing committee of the Board, additional committee meetings will be scheduled as required.

  The College Board meets 6 times per year.

  Student terms last for one year.

• What is the responsibility of the successfully elected Education Council Member?

  As a member of the Education Council, you are responsible for helping shape the educational experience at CNC. You'll make decisions on academic policies, the quality of instruction, how students are evaluated, and the content of our curriculum. Your role is key in ensuring that our programs meet high standards and provide valuable learning opportunities for all students.

• What is the responsibility of a successfully elected Board of Governors member?

  As a member of the Board of Governors, you play an important role in guiding the future of CNC. You’ll help decide on tuition rates, manage budgets, and approve new programs and credentials. You’ll play a pivotal role in overseeing business operations and the allocation of resources that align with the College’s strategic plan.
